Biggby Black picked up a win at home, 4-1 over the St. Clair Shores Saints (MHR rating 84.39). Claire S. (#10) opened the scoring at 9:03 of the first with a helper from Maddie G. (#44), and Emma J. (#14) made it 2-0 at 4:38, the game-winner. We took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission after killing off two late minors. The Saints got one back in the second, a shorthanded goal at 4:04, and we answered in the third. Claire S. (#10) scored again at 13:53 with another assist from Maddie G. (#44), and Aubree L. (#88) put it away at 12:47 with the assist from Rachael K. (#58). Our penalty kill went 5 for 5: the Saints had five power plays and did not score on any of them. Three of our five minors were pure body-contact calls, a cross-check and two roughing penalties, and those are the penalties we will take any day. That is a team finishing its checks and playing with an edge. Makayla T. (#5) went the distance in goal and stopped 25 of the 26 shots she faced (9 in the 1st, 12 in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd), and the only one that got through was a shorthanded goal in the 2nd. Beyond the score sheet: the penalty kill unit gets the shout-out for this one. Five chances for St. Clair Shores, zero power play goals, and the team dug in a man down in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
