Game day

Game day

Everything for the next game in one place, plus the parent tracker: tap shots, passes and zone entries and we turn everyone's taps into analytics GameSheet does not have.

Up next

Song of the game: Thriller · Michael Jackson (tap anywhere to start)

@ Oakland Lady Grizzlies (OJG)

Fuel up

Eat. Hydrate. Sleep. Win.

Night before

Carb dinner (pasta, rice, potatoes) + a lil protein. Skip the greasy stuff. Chug water all day. Sleep 8+ hrs, phone down.

Game day, 3-4 hrs out

Real meal: carbs, some protein, low fat. Rice bowl, chicken + pasta, bagel + eggs. Stuff you already know sits right. 16-20 oz water.

1 hr out

Easy carbs only. Banana, pretzels, crackers, PB sandwich. Another 8-10 oz water. No candy, no energy drinks (sugar crash + jitters).

After

Within 30 min: chocolate milk or snack with carbs + protein. Then a real meal.

Quick start (60 seconds)
  1. Log in with your team account, pick the game, and tap P1 when the puck drops. Switch to P2, P3 and OT as the game goes.
  2. Choose Team or Player. Team mode counts the whole game. Player mode follows one skater: pick her number and tap what she does. Most parents do best tracking one thing: their own player, or just the team's shots.
  3. Tap as it happens. Each tap adds one. Slipped? Undo last tap. You do not have to catch everything. A clean partial count is worth more than a rushed guess.
  4. It saves itself. Taps are stored on your phone and sent when you have signal. Hit Save now at the end of each period.

Add it to your home screen: iPhone Share, then Add to Home Screen. Android menu, then Install app. A true widget needs a store app, so this opens like an app instead.

What each button means

These follow the same ideas public hockey analytics trackers use (shot attempts, scoring chances, the passing project, zone entries), simplified for the stands.

ButtonTap it when
Shot on goalThe puck reaches the goalie or goes in. If she has to react, it counts.
Missed or blockedA shot attempt that goes wide, hits the post, or is blocked by a player. (Not on goal, still an attempt.)
Shot against / their missed or blockedSame two buttons for the other team's shots at our net.
Scoring chanceA good look from the slot or the middle of the ice in front of the net (the "home plate" area), not every shot from the point.
Pass that led to a shot (1st)The last pass before a teammate shoots. Tap it for the passer in Player mode.
2nd pass before a shotThe pass before that one.
Cross-ice pass before a shotThe pass that crosses the middle of the ice right before a shot. Hard for goalies to follow, so it is valuable.
Pass completed / lostPlayer mode: her pass reaches a teammate, or it is picked off or fumbled. You will not catch every pass, so use these only if you follow one player.
Carried in / dumped inHow we enter the offensive zone: with the puck under control, or a chip or dump. Same idea for carried out / cleared out leaving our zone.
Takeaway / giveawayShe steals the puck, or she loses it to the other team under no pressure.
Faceoff won / lost, penaltiesFaceoffs by outcome. Penalty we drew means called on the other team. Penalty we took means called on us.
Goal, goal against, saveQuick check against the scoresheet. GameSheet stays the official source for goals and assists.
How your taps are valued

Everyone's count is a vote. Each stat is shown as the group's middle value, not one person's number, so one missed shot or one over-count cannot throw a game off. Players who left early are set aside so partial games do not pull totals down.

Three trackers is the sweet spot. With one or two we show the numbers but label them. With three or more we can compare notes and the stats get steadier.

Steady trackers count a little more over time. We quietly notice who lines up with the group game after game. Parents who are consistently close carry slightly more weight, and a parent who always counts a little high or low gets nudged back toward the group automatically. Nobody sees a score, ever, and a rough night never locks you out.

Private tips. When three or more parents tracked the same game and your total for something is far from the group (like many more shots on goal), the tracker shows you a short friendly tip, for example to check that you are not counting missed shots as on goal. Tips are only shown to you.

What it feeds on the Numbers page
You tapIt becomes
Shots on goal, missed or blocked, shots againstShot attempt share (our attempts out of all attempts, the number analysts call Corsi%), shots on goal for and against, shooting %, save %
Scoring chancesChance share: who is getting the best looks
Passes before shots, cross-ice passes, passes completed or lostShot contributions (shots plus the passes that set up shots) and passing leaders, the stat GameSheet cannot show
Carried vs dumped entries and exitsControlled entry % and controlled exit %: how cleanly we move the puck through the zones
FaceoffsFaceoff %
Penalties drawn and takenPenalty differential (pairs with the power play numbers from the score sheets)

Score sheets give us goals, assists, power plays, penalties and the clock. Parents fill in the rest: shots, chances, passing and zone play. Together that is much closer to what pro teams track. See the results on the Numbers page.

Tips for good data
  • Sit where you can see the whole ice if you can: center ice, a few rows up.
  • Count only what you clearly saw. Skip it if you are not sure. A missed tap is fine, a guess is not.
  • Pick one job: team shots, one player, or just zone entries. Fewer buttons, better numbers.
  • Be fair to both teams. The same rules apply for our shots and theirs.
  • Do not tap during the national anthem or timeouts, and enjoy the game too.
Privacy and fairness

Tracking needs your team login. Player stats follow the same name consent rules as the rest of the site: if a parent said no to names, that player's numbers are not shown. Tracked stats are unofficial, labelled that way, and used for fun and coaching, never to rank or compare kids against each other. See the privacy notice.
